Akyra’s second annual Executive Lunch

Last month, Akyra was thrilled to host its second annual Executive Lunch at the Bougainvillea House at Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane.
We’re very fortunate to work alongside an incredible network of businesses who are family-owned and operated and have a genuine passion for collaboration and growth, and the Akyra Executive Lunch is a great chance for us to say thank you to our clients.
More importantly, we wanted to provide an opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded business leaders. We also wanted to add value by hearing from an industry-leading professional doing great things for, and in, their business.
This year, we were fortunate enough to be joined by special guest (and Akyra client) Mark Stockwell who took part in a fireside chat with Jacqueline Nagle, founder of Any Given Tuesday.
An Olympian and a businessman, Mark is the owner of Stockwell; a development, property management and funds management group.
It was fitting to have Mark, head of a family-owned and run business, as our guest because Akyra specialises in providing HR advice and support to family businesses.
Mark spoke to his experience in navigating a generational family business and what it takes to still be thriving after 70 years.
More specifically, Mark discussed the unique dynamics and challenges of a family-owned and run business including how to navigate transition; the value of honouring and respecting what different parties bring to the table at different stages; and how to ensure changes do not derail the business.
Mark also provided key insights into the Olympic Games coming to Brisbane in 2032 and the opportunities that it presents to both Brisbane itself and south-east Queensland more broadly. He encouraged guests to look within their business and identify the opportunities that might be available to them.
With his experience as an elite swimmer representing Australia in the 1984 Olympics and 1986 Commonwealth Games and as Chairman of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Mark presented a unique perspective on this topic and its possibilities for our region.
Akyra was pleased to make a donation to Stockwell Foundation charity.
We know our guests absorbed a lot of value from attending our second annual Akyra Executive Lunch, whether that was making a new connection, finding inspiration to work on their business and discussing possible opportunities.
On behalf of the Akyra team, we extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to our clients who took time out of their busy schedules to join us at the Akyra Executive Lunch.
And, last but absolutely not least, a huge thank you to Mike Stockwell for joining us at this very special event!
